“Let your light shine before others”
“Let your light shine before others in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 Sometimes I think that we get preoccupied with our own lives and what’s going on in them. We forget about others around us and maybe they’re going through challenges bigger than what we have, have had, or ever will have. Last night in my Bible study group I learned about a lady who attends our church who lost her husband a year ago and is really going through some tough times. Not just the grief but also some health issues among some other even larger issues. She has some things that she needs to work through (as do we all) but as a church and as a group of ladies in our Bible study we are going to reach out and help her get her some new clothing and things for her home, bring them meals, and just be there for her. Sometimes we need to look beyond ourselves and our own lives. Jesus tells us to let our light shine before others. He is calling us to get rid of the darkness. To light up our dark world with his light. We do this by living according to his word, purpose and will. We do this by treating everyone we come across with the same love, compassion and grace that he offers us. Keep an open heart and mind; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, our Heavenly Father full of grace! “Shining our light” means that we reflect the very nature of Jesus in everything we do. Just be you. Help others and serve. Lend a hand. Be kind and open to others. When you start giving, you will receive way more in return.
